Paul Appointed as Sports Development Officer for Active Grindleford
One village in rural Derbyshire is set to see fitness levels soaring as 'Active Grindleford', a voluntary sports organisation in the Derbyshire Dales, has appointed sports development officer, Paul Whitworth, to encourage the whole community to get active.
Grindleford has enjoyed an injection of support and resources as part of the Active England programme, which saw the creation of a stunning floodlit multi use games area, officially launched by Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn MP in October 2005.
It's now Paul's job to ensure that this programme is sustained, to develop school club links and encourage the community to tune in to getting fit and making the most of the sporting facilities.
A graduate in exercise physiology and qualified fitness coach, 30 year old Paul has an impressive array of coaching awards as well as overseas experience as head coach for football and tennis at a summer camp in Maine, USA.
Paul will be gleaning expertise from his role as sports development officer at Brookfield Community School, Chesterfield, which enjoys Specialist Sports College status. He will be able to translate this practical knowledge to work within a community environment, which has already seen great development in the sporting domain in the last year.
Commenting on his new role, Paul said: "I have a life long passion for sport so am extremely privileged to be able to work in a job which really gives me a buzz.
"With the right combination of sports resources and skills, I have strong hopes that Active Grindleford will continue to be a hugely successful programme and one we can roll out to other areas."
Paul is employed on behalf of Active Grindleford by Kickstone Recruitment, a local consultancy dedicated to recruitment and employment in the sports sector.
